Larry McIntyre

Larry spent much of his youth hunting, fishing, and generally enjoying nature with his father and uncle. He also credits his love for the outdoors to his activities earning his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts. After attending West Virginia University, he moved south to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1992 where he lives with his wife and two children. Over the past ten years, memories made in 'Low Country' South Carolina sparked his interest in finding a better way to connect to the region and its culture. Larry discovered that his talent in working with wood was the venue to accomplish this and formed SouthernWood Paddle Company in 2015, whose goal it is to use recovered and salvaged southern grown lumber to make beautiful and functional boat paddles. Larry notes that “many of the tree species found throughout the South, particularly the old growth cypress salvaged by Alec Blalock and his team, display both the vibrant character and rich history of the region and its people.” Larry is proud to offer his paddles at the Swamp Log Artisan’s gallery for people to enjoy, either as a decorative accent or out on the water.
